Shimano Ocea EX Fluorocarbon Leader
Leader diameter chart & setup guide

Ocea EX Fluoro Leader is fluorocarbon for the connection between your main line and lure or rig, not Ocea 8 braid. The European range comes on 50-meter spools through 100 lb and a 20-meter spool at 130 lb. Use the chart to choose a strength and check its diameter.

Is Ocea EX Fluorocarbon Leader right for your setup?
Ocea EX is a terminal fluorocarbon option for joining to your mainline, with a layered structure and a broad range of diameters. Choose it around the lure connection, cover, intended knot and guide clearance. The package is a supply of individual leaders, not a recommendation to fill a reel with it.

A package supplies multiple leaders
The package length is the amount you buy, not the leader length to attach to one rig. Allow extra line for knots, tag ends, trimming, and replacing damaged sections.

Choosing and using Ocea EX Fluorocarbon Leader
The 20 lb product code is .377 mm, 30 lb is .476 mm, 40 lb is .577 mm, and 50 lb is .628 mm. Do not substitute a generic fluorocarbon diameter chart.
Select leader size with knot bulk and guide clearance in mind. A longer leader puts the connection through the guides more often; no universal knot-length recommendation is implied here.
If braid is on the reel, its diameter controls the working capacity. A short Ocea EX leader does not justify using the leader's strength as the braid rating.
Specification-based leader guidance, not a hands-on Ocea EX Fluorocarbon Leader test. Select terminal material independently of the reel's mainline capacity.
Plan individual leader lengths
Decide how much terminal material your rig needs and allow additional material for tying and future reties. The package length is the total supply; it is not the required length of one leader.
Match the package to the strength
The verified 4-100 lb entries use 50-meter spools. The 130 lb entry uses 20 meters. In yard units these are approximately 54.68 and 21.87 yards, not additional retail options.
Check the connection after contact
Inspect the leader and knot after rubbing against structure or landing a fish. Replace compromised material before continuing, and test that the connection clears the guides if it passes through them.
Plan the line on your reel separately
A short terminal leader is not the working line that fills your spool. Use the actual main line in the calculator or Setup Wizard. A long topshot that occupies substantial spool space needs its own capacity plan.
Ocea EX Fluorocarbon Leader questions, answered
Is Ocea EX the same as Ocea 8?
No. Ocea EX Fluoro Leader is fluorocarbon leader material; Ocea 8 is braided mainline.
Why is 130 lb sold in a shorter length?
The official table lists a 20-meter package at 130 lb. This guide reports that package without inferring an unavailable 50-meter option.
Should I use leader strength to calculate braid capacity?
No. Use the braid actually wound on the reel. A terminal Ocea EX section does not change that mainline into fluorocarbon or give it the leader strength label.
