Shimano Kairiki 8 Braid
Diameter chart, reel capacity & backing guide

Kairiki 8 is Shimano's eight-carrier VT Construction braid. This guide covers the Australian 3,000-meter bulk range, a supply for multiple reel fills rather than a single filler spool. The verified selection contains 15, 20, 30, 50 and 80 lb in Mantis Green and Multi.

Is Kairiki 8 right for your setup?
Kairiki 8 is an eight-strand braid to consider when you maintain several reels or want repeated fills from one supply. The 3,000-meter bulk packages covered here make most sense when divided into planned working lengths. Choose the strength for each setup and keep enough braid above the backing connection for fishing and later trimming.
How much Kairiki 8 will fit?
Calculated estimates, not measured fills. Stop at the reel manufacturer's fill level even if some line remains.

Choosing your Kairiki 8 strength
The exact Australian 20 lb bulk diameter is .20 mm; 30 lb is .23 mm. These values belong to the SKE3000 product code family, not an assumed universal Kairiki chart.
The 50 lb entry is .315 mm and 80 lb is .42 mm. The heavier line consumes appreciably more spool volume, so do not divide the bulk supply by an assumed equal fill length.
The official Australian filler rows lack diameters. Their 150- and 300-meter packages are documented separately but are not assigned bulk diameters here.
Specification-based guidance, not a hands-on Kairiki 8 test. Capacity results are estimates, not measured fills.

Backing, working line & leaders
Allocate a bulk supply
3,000 meters converts to approximately 3,280.84 yards. Choose a working length and reserve for each reel before deciding how many fills the supply will provide.
Keep an allowance for losses
Plan for future reties and damaged line removal, especially when dividing one bulk spool across several reels. A nominally exact division leaves no reserve for those losses.
Read the Australian code
The verified 20 lb codes are SKE300020G and SKE300020M. Shorter filler packages and other regions need their own diameter evidence; a similar name is not enough.

Kairiki 8 questions, answered
Does this cover the 150m filler spool?
No. The Australian page lists those packages but leaves their diameter cells blank. This guide uses only complete 3000m bulk rows.
Is Kairiki 8 the same as Kairiki 8+?
No. The plus model is a separate product identity. This page uses the standard Kairiki 8 bulk product code range.
Can I divide a bulk spool equally among reels?
Only after checking each reel and desired working length. Different spool sizes and line diameters need different amounts, and future trimming requires reserve.
Specifications & sources
Checked 2026-09-13. Australian and European tables were reviewed separately. This chart covers only the complete Australian bulk specifications; European specifications and shorter filler-package diameters are not substituted.
Calculations use the catalog's listed inch diameters. Published inch and millimeter values may differ slightly because of rounding.
