Maxima Ultragreen
Diameter chart, reel capacity & backing guide

Maxima Ultragreen is a monofilament that can fill your reel or form a fresh working section over backing. The chart below uses Maxima's published diameters and spool lengths for each strength. It covers spools for filling reels, not the small Leader Wheels sold for tying leaders.

Is Ultragreen right for your setup?
Ultragreen is a monofilament option for anglers who want mono's stretch and a continuous working line. Its broad strength range covers very different tackle sizes, so match diameter to the reel as well as strength to the lure and cover. Check the actual yardage of the selected package when planning one fill or several refills.
How much Ultragreen will fit?
Calculated estimates, not measured fills. Stop at the reel manufacturer's fill level even if some line remains.

Choosing your Ultragreen strength
Ultragreen 6, 8 and 10 lb measure 0.009, 0.010 and 0.012 inch. Going from 8 to 10 lb takes up more space on the spool, so check how much of your chosen strength the reel will hold.
The middle range includes 12, 15, 18 and 20 lb. Choose the strength that suits your rod, lure and cover, then use its listed diameter to plan the fill.
Ultragreen also comes in much heavier strengths. Those sizes need suitably large tackle; they are not recommendations for the small spinning reels used in the examples.
This is a specification-based Ultragreen setup guide, not a ReelCalc hands-on casting, abrasion or breaking-strength test.

Backing, working line & leaders
Check how many yards you are buying
US One Shot spools contain 250 yards at 6 lb and 220 yards at 8-18 lb. Check the length for your chosen strength instead of assuming every spool contains the same amount.
Reel spools and Leader Wheels
One Shot and larger spools are sold for filling reels. Small Leader Wheels are sold for tying short leaders, so they are not included in the reel-fill choices here.
Full fill or fresh line over backing
You can fill the reel with Ultragreen, or put a shorter fresh section over sound backing. Leave enough fresh line for long casts, fish runs and trimming, and keep the joining knot below the line you normally cast.

Ultragreen questions, answered
Is Ultragreen the same as Maxima Braid 8 Ultragreen?
No. This page is monofilament. Braid 8 Ultragreen is a braided product with different construction and diameters, despite the shared color name.
Is every One Shot spool the same length?
No. For example, US One Shot spools contain 250 yards at 6 lb and 220 yards at 8-18 lb. Check the length shown for the strength you select.
Where do the millimeter figures come from?
Maxima publishes these diameters in inches. ReelCalc converts them to millimeters so you can compare lines using either unit.
How much Ultragreen fits my reel?
Use the selected Ultragreen diameter with your reel's published capacity. Pound test is a product strength label, not a universal diameter. Stop filling at the reel manufacturer's recommended level.
Does Ultragreen require backing?
Backing is optional for a full mainline fill. It can make sense under a shorter fresh working section, but the connection must stay below normal casting depth with enough reserve for runs and retying.
