Choosing your Crystal Ivory strength
Crystal Ivory 4, 6, 8 and 10 lb are listed at 0.007, 0.009, 0.010 and 0.012 inch. Each comes on a 1,000-yard US Guide Spool.
Maxima lists both 12 and 15 lb at 0.013 inch and 1,176 yards. Those repeated figures are shown as published; check your package if it lists something different.
The 20-50 lb sizes are thicker and come with less line per spool. Choose a strength your tackle can handle before comparing how much will fit.

Check the yards on a Guide Spool
The lighter sizes contain 1,000 yards, while 50 lb contains 279 yards. Maxima lists 1,176 yards for both 12 and 15 lb. A similar-looking plastic spool does not always contain the same length.
Plan visibility and terminal rig separately
Use the golden main line when above-water tracking matters to you. If a separate leader is part of the rig, its length and connection are terminal decisions; they do not change which main line determines capacity.
Use only the necessary fresh working length
For repeated fills from a Guide Spool, allow reserve for trimming and runs. Sound backing is optional underneath, with no connection in the normal casting section.

Does Crystal Ivory require backing?
Backing is optional for a full mainline fill. It can make sense under a shorter fresh working section, but the connection must stay below normal casting depth with enough reserve for runs and retying.
