Gamma Edge Fluorocarbon
Diameter chart, reel capacity & backing guide

Gamma Edge is the brand's general-purpose 100% fluorocarbon main line. Its U.S. size labels run from 4 to 25 lb, including 14 and 16 lb, and are distinct from Gamma's separately published actual-break figures. The verified range includes 50-, 100-, 200-, 500- and 1000-yard packages.

Is Edge Fluorocarbon right for your setup?
Edge is Gamma's broader-strength fluorocarbon main-line option, compared with the lighter Touch range. It is worth considering when your presentation or cover calls for a heavier fluorocarbon setup. Check diameter carefully on smaller reels: 10 lb Edge is 0.012 inch, while 9 lb Touch is 0.0105 inch, so those nearby test labels occupy different amounts of spool space.
How much Edge Fluorocarbon will fit?
Calculated estimates, not measured fills. Stop at the reel manufacturer's fill level even if some line remains.

U.S. Gamma Edge tables and matching package product codes. Inch/mm pairs are independently published; U.S. size, not actual break strength, is the row label. The 12-lb FGE12-11 photo and table agree on 100 yards but print 92 M and 90 M respectively; this meter-label discrepancy does not change the supported yardage.

Choosing your Edge Fluorocarbon strength
Edge 4, 6 and 8 lb measure 0.008, 0.010 and 0.011 inch. Begin with the rod's line range and the cover, then check capacity; the 6 lb label should not be treated as a universal thin-line size.
The middle steps are 10, 12, 14 and 16 lb. Keep those actual offered sizes when comparing setups instead of substituting a generic 15 lb record. The U.S. size column identifies the product; the actual-break column is not a replacement label.
Edge 20 and 25 lb take appreciably more space at 0.017 and 0.019 inch. Use these only where the rod, reel, lure and cover justify the diameter, not simply to maximize the strength number.
This is a specification-based Edge Fluorocarbon setup guide, not a ReelCalc hands-on casting, abrasion or breaking-strength test.

Backing, working line & leaders
Choose a working length before the package
The 50-yard Pony and 100-yard Filler are real Edge packages, but neither guarantees a full reel fill. Include casting distance, fish runs and retying reserve before deciding whether 200 yards or a larger package is appropriate.
Straight Edge or optional backing
A continuous Edge fill avoids a buried connection. A shorter fresh working section over sound backing is another option; keep that knot below the line you normally cast and allow for future trimming.
Separate Edge from Touch and leader stock
Use Edge's selected diameter for its capacity. Touch is a different finesse product, and Gamma's dedicated Fluorocarbon Leader has a separate size chart and much shorter retail packages.

Edge Fluorocarbon questions, answered
Is Edge the same as Gamma Touch?
No. Edge covers 4-25 lb with its own diameters. Touch is a separate finesse fluorocarbon offered in smaller increments; for example, 8 lb Edge is 0.011 inch and 8 lb Touch is 0.0095 inch.
Does the actual-break column change the line size?
No. Select the stated U.S. size printed for the product code. Gamma's actual-break values are manufacturer-reported figures, not ReelCalc testing or a guarantee of knot strength.
Is the 50-yard Edge spool enough for main line?
Only when your planned working section, including reserve, fits within 50 yards. Check the fill rather than treating a small package as a complete reel load.
How much Edge Fluorocarbon fits my reel?
Use the selected Edge Fluorocarbon diameter with your reel's published capacity. Pound test is a product strength label, not a universal diameter. Stop filling at the reel manufacturer's recommended level.
Does Edge Fluorocarbon require backing?
Backing is optional for a full mainline fill. It can make sense under a shorter fresh working section, but the connection must stay below normal casting depth with enough reserve for runs and retying.
