CAST Fishing Co. X12 Frog & Flip Braid

Diameter chart, reel capacity & backing guide

CAST Fishing Co. X12 Frog & Flip Braid manufacturer product package

A camo 12-strand braid designed specifically for frogging and flipping vegetation. This guide uses the US 150-yard Frog & Flip product: 65 lb at 0.26 mm and 80 lb at 0.30 mm. Regular X12 Casting Braid is a separate product.

A specialist choice for vegetation

X12 Frog & Flip is aimed at heavy-cover bass presentations, not a default upgrade for every spinning reel. Choose between the two tests using the rod, hook, lure and cover. Both are unusually thin relative to their printed test, so a reel may hold much more than the 150-yard working package. That extra volume is a backing decision, not a reason to force a larger fill.

Choosing your setup

Choosing your X12 Frog & Flip strength

Compare the verified 65 and 80 lb options as two physical sizes: 0.26 and 0.30 mm. The test label alone is not a spool-capacity measurement.

For frogs, reserve enough working line for the longest intended cast and subsequent line loss. For short flipping presentations, do not interpret a high full-spool estimate as a required purchase quantity.

Use tackle rated for the selected power application. The 65 or 80 lb label is not a recommended drag setting, and thin braid can dig into lower wraps on a baitcaster.

This is a source-based specification and setup guide, not a hands-on review or comparative performance test.

Backing, working line & leaders

Plan the 150-yard working section

Start with the frog cast or flipping depth, expected runs and a retying reserve. The package supplies 150 yards, which can be less than full-spool capacity at these diameters.

Keep backing below the cast

Use backing to occupy unused volume and an attachment suited to the reel arbor. Keep the connection buried beneath the line likely to leave the spool during fishing.

Wind under controlled tension

Keep wraps even and follow the reel maker's fill clearance. After a heavy load, check for buried wraps before making another hard cast.

X12 Frog & Flip questions, answered

Is Frog & Flip the same as regular X12?

No. These rows belong to the camo Frog & Flip product. Do not transfer diameters or spool lengths from regular X12 Casting Braid.

Does 65 lb mean I should use 65 lb of drag?

No. Choose drag for the complete tackle system and fishing conditions. The printed line test is not a drag prescription.

Will one 150-yard spool fill my baitcaster?

It depends on the reel and the chosen 0.26 or 0.30 mm line. Estimate capacity first, then use backing if the intended working section is shorter than full capacity.

Has ReelCalc confirmed longer casts?

No. The construction and intended techniques are manufacturer information. This page is not an independent casting-distance test.

Specifications & sources

Checked September 13, 2026 against the official product information linked below. Millimeter diameters are printed in the official variant names. Inch values are explicit mm/25.4 conversions; braid packing remains an estimate. Offered specifications do not establish current stock; this is not an independent diameter measurement.

Calculations use the catalog's listed inch diameters. Published inch and millimeter values may differ slightly because of rounding.
